The Irresistible Beauty of Vinyl (part 1) - Definitions, Care & FAQ

Welcome to this very special part on my blog. Today's post is all about vinyl, PVC, datex, and faux leather. To start this special section I want to write about some FAQ, how to take care of vinyl and PVC, and

caring for latex, datex, vinyl, and PVC is very important.

But first what is vinyl, PVC, datex, and faux leather?

What is Faux Leather?
Faux leather is one of several names given to artificial or synthetic leather. These names are often used to describe specific end uses of synthetic leather products such as faux leather (sofa, chair and headboard upholstery), leatherette (auto upholstery, clothing), and koskin (consumer goods). There are two primary types of faux leather construction: polyurethane (“PU”), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC – “Vinyl”).

Vinyl synthetic leather has been produced in the United States since the 1940s, initially for products such as shoes, automobile interiors, and upholstery. In the late 1950s, DuPont and other chemical companies began developing polyurethane products.

Both polyurethane and vinyl synthetic leathers are used in making clothing, upholstery, and product covers, but each is better for certain applications than others. PU fabric is softer, more flexible, and breathable, so it's more commonly used for making high-wear products, like clothing and upholstery (surfaces that come into direct contact with skin). Vinyl is not as breathable as PU, but this is often ideal for products that need to repel moisture such as book bindings or cases for electronic devices.

Vinyl Upholstery

Vinyl upholstery is made from two separate synthetic materials. The fibers of the upholstery are constructed from strong polyester fibers. The fibers are then coated with vinyl, made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and plasticizers (phthalic acid). This vinyl is melted onto the surface of the fibers, sealing them closed and making a virtually waterproof surface that is still flexible and tough.

Vinyl upholstery is easy to clean and maintain. This makes it ideal for situations where cleanliness is a top priority, such as in hospitals and restaurants. Vinyl also does not require any special care or conditioning. However, vinyl can become uncomfortably hot if left in the sun. Skin will stick to the surface, creating an uncomfortable seating situation. Vinyl may also crack with extended use.

Polyurethane Upholstery

PU is made by coating a backing fabric such as cotton, polyester or shredded leather with a flexible polymer and then treating it to look more like animal hide. Polyurethane upholstery is the most realistic imitation of genuine leather, with respect to hand, surface feel, and overall appearance. When stitched, gathered, or tufted it actually “breaks” or wrinkles like real leather. Because there are no plasticizers used in PU upholstery there is no cracking or peeling, and it remains soft and supple for the duration of time it remains on the furniture. They are also easier to decorate designs on them. Polyurethane is considered greener than Vinyl because it does not create dioxins. PU resins are made of a softer polymer and therefore don’t need additional plasticizers. Polyurethane costs less than real leather but it is more expensive to produce than Vinyl.

Benefits of Faux Leather Compared to Real Leather

Faux leather offers a number of advantages compared to real leather. These would include the following:

Economical – Faux leather is typically much more affordable than real leather.

Durability – Faux leather is very durable and will last a long time. It can withstand scratches and scrapes that would mar genuine leather. It is not prone to crack or peel like leather. It will not fade as easily in ultraviolet (UV) light and is stain resistant.

Low Maintenance – Faux leather materials can usually be wiped clean with a rag and warm water. Unlike genuine leather, it does not retain moisture, so faux leather items will not become warped or cracked. Some of the new performance faux leathers can remove ink, liquid and food stains with only a dry cloth.

Realistic Quality – Faux leather has been modified and improved with variations in grain, color, and textures to reflect a visual appearance with realistic leather quality.

Consistent Appearance – Faux leather will provide a uniform look since all the pieces come from the same stock.

Fashion - Faux leathers can also be printed providing an enormous variety of textures and patterns. In addition, because faux leather is a synthetic material, it can be dyed a rainbow of colors. This fashion-forward approach allows for more freedom when decorating residential or commercial interiors.

Easy to Work With – Faux leather is easier to cut and sew than real leather. In addition, needle marks are usually less noticeable and threads blend with the faux leather material more seamlessly.

Disadvantages of Faux Leather Compared to Real Leather

Faux Leather does have some disadvantages when compared to real leather. Faux leather does not stretch, breathe or wear like leather. Faux leather is very durable; however, it does not develop the same luster and patina over time as leather. Faux leather is not punctured or tear-resistant like real leather.

What is PVC and vinyl?
PVC is knitwear from synthetic material which is characterized by large stretching. Costumes made of it are definitely more comfortable than latex and datex outfits, but lack is presenting equally attractive. Clothes and accessories made by this specific material are great choices for people, that looking for the eye-catching, hot look and comfortable use.

PVC stylizations are character reflection of self-confident, unhesitating women, that’s why they’re perfect for a dominatrix in BDSM games. Product is also good in typical role-playing and meeting expectations of many dogging conesers. It can add some spicy taste in more conventional relationships, awakening the imagination and bringing to life the fantasies about domination. Full erotic sets, dresses, overalls and one-piece body from lack is a great idea for a costume for thematic events in closed groups like swingers clubs.

The terms "PVC", "vinyl" and "PU" tend to be used interchangeably by retailers for clothing made from shiny plastic-coated fabrics. These fabrics usually consist of a backing woven from polyester fibers with a surface coating of shiny plastic. The plastic layer itself is typically a blend of PVC and polyurethane (PU), with 100% PVC producing a stiff fabric with a glossy shine and 100% PU producing a stretchy fabric with a silky shine. A manufacturer's label may say, for example, 67% polyester, 33% polyurethane for a fabric that contains no PVC; or 80% polyvinyl chloride, 20% polyurethane with mention of the polyester backing omitted.

What is latex and datex?
Latex is a well-known material for everyone, but the only views have a courage to wear it. Clearly associated with BDSM practice, can also be used in a softer sex situation. Splendidly shaping a body, makes the temperature in bedroom hotter and awakening the imagination of both partners. Except for visual experience, provides extraordinary sensory stimulation. The feeling latex on the skin is a guarantee of a pleasant thrill. During BDSM playing tight latex strengthens the feeling of enslavement and properly used may make the discomfort desirable by submissive ones.

Dresses, suits and body made of latex it’s an idea not only for naughty nights for two. Conesers of unconventional erotic practices will find in offert costumes suitable for thematic parties and meeting in swingers clubs. For expected shining effect, latex requires the use of oiling substances. For more comfortable put on body latex costume is recommended applying substances that gives a slip to the skin.

Provocative and also comfortable and awaiking imagination datex costumes are a proposition for naughty stylizations lovers. Multiplacy of fashion types gives an opportunity for making uncountable sex scenarios.

Tempting clothes, including pants, shirts, suits, dresses, and body from datex are opening the doors for sex fantasies. Can be used for variety of sexual life, when routine will sneak into the bedroom. This product will be a great idea for role-playing games. Datex tops and underwear can become also a strong accent in more intime dalliance.

Datex is a synthetic material similar in appearance to latex. Recommended for people that looking for a little more comfort or that are allergic to latex. Datex clothing are distinguished by great flexibility and a excellent fit to the body.Product don’t require additional slip on the body, easily puts on the skin, enhancing all of the silhouette walors. For a better shining effect datex, like latex, should be grassed by the same oil substance.

Below are some tips on caring for latex.

Safety note:
If you have a latex allergy, I advise you against having physical contact with latex clothing.
Please also note that there is a potential risk of suffocation when using full head masks and gags.

Wearing:
It is particularly important that you take care when putting on the garment. You can use powder, talcum powder or a low-viscosity lubricant containing silicone to make it easier to put on the garments. You should take care not to damage the product with sharp or pointed objects such as fingernails or toenails.

Storage:
After maintenance, you should store your latex clothing in a wardrobe; this is particularly good for the product as the latex will be in a place that is dark, dry and not too warm. I also recommend that you store your product in garment covers or plastic bags. It is also very important to note that the garments are best kept separate, particularly with colorful products, so that they cannot rub off. I also recommend avoiding contact with copper or brass, as these could stain your transparent items.

Shine:
You can polish your garment using shine spray or with a liquid silicone oil to make your outfit shine. For example, the shine spray can be evenly distributed on your garment, the thin layer giving the product a wonderful gleam.

You can find ideal products for cleaning, maintaining and disinfecting your item in the section on maintenance products*.

Drying:
After cleaning, it is also particularly important to hang the item to dry on a hanger (I recommend wooden hangers rather than wire hangers, as the latter can result in wrinkles and dents) or on a line for it to dry properly. You can lightly dab the product with a lint-free towel to remove any remaining water from the latex. After you have dried the product, dust it with talcum powder, body powder from the chemist’s or baby powder, as this can prevent your latex clothing from sticking together.

FAQ:
WARNING:
DO NOT use oil-based lubricants and avoid over shining appliqué details. Lubricants can seep into seams which can cause the seam to become unbound.

AVOID sharp objects, such as long nails and jewelry. Take off all jewelry when putting on or taking off your garment. AVOID perfume, body sprays, and oils.

AVOID metal objects, such as coins, belts, and body piercings or copper, brass, and bronze based items. AVOID hanging garments with thin straps or on metal hangers.

When your garment is not in use I suggest covering any metal (zippers, buckles, eyelets, etc.) with tissue paper to avoid staining.
Any light color latex, such as pink and white, will stain easily. Store these pieces separately.

*KEEP OUT OF SUNLIGHT & EXTREME HEAT*

Q. Is PVC safe worn next to the Skin?
A. The PVC we use is manufactured to very strict European legislation and is safe worn next to the skin. However, if you wear it for long periods of time your skin will not be able to breathe and you may get a reaction.

Q. Is it hot to wear PVC and vinyl because in the Philippines it is always hot outside?
A. For me, it is not that. PVC and Vinyl is a very light material, however, heat can have an effect on your skin like the clothes might feel super tied and your skin cannot breathe. me for myself I can handle the situation in the Philippines. If you are in hot places outside and afterwards you go inside a building like an office or your home, avoid air-conditioned areas. Sweat in combination with vinyl clothes or PVC and air-con will make you feel like your clothes are super cold. You might also feel like you are freezing because the vinyl and PVC get cold. Remember that vinyl and PVC extense their structure while being in a hot place because of the linen but if you are in a cold place the temperature cannot be saved inside your clothes. By the way, sweat does not have any effect on wearing vinyl and PVC clothes, it is the surrounding. That is my own opinion based on my experiences.

 Q. Why do you wear vinyl and PVC clothes?
A. It is an outstanding cool material and you do not see many people in the Philippines wearing vinyl and PVC. I do not prefer leather to be honest since I feel like that animal had to die because of the production of leather clothes. Vinyl and PVC are fabric stuff and I like the different kinds of combinations you can do it with them.

Q. How many pants do you have?
A. I have 12 vinyl pants, 1 datex pants, and 4 fake leather leggings. In addition, I have 2 PVC pants.

Q. Where do you get your clothes from?
A. I have a special online shop I order from that is based in the UK. I also order online from ASOS and from the US at Fashionova.

That's it for this part. In the second part, I will be showing you my collection of vinyl and PVC clothes, give you tips and tricks for a perfect outfit, and I will also talk about some rules you have to follow to wear faux leather, vinyl, and PVC.

That was the first part of my vinyl and PVC posts and in the next part I will show you my collection, give you tips and tricks on how to wear vinyl and PVC, some do's and don't and more. Stay tuned and keep shining. XOXO Lovely.
